Just in time for the week-end, one of my favorite Montreal DJ’s, Cherry Cola put out a slamming mixtape! This mixtape contains some of his own creations such as Raven which you can download here . You can also catch DJ Cherry Cola spining every friday night @ Foufs for his “Big City Night” venue.
I just recently came across this “Le Castle Vania” remix of Through a keyhole by Walter Meego. Atlanta based and internationally known, Le Castle Vania will quickly become a household name on the indie-electro scene. Be sure to check out his MySpace and don’t miss him if he comes to town !
My man Téki Latex aka Tékitek just droped a summer time banger today on discobelle! I had to zshare this one because of the size. Big up to the TTC Crew.
Yet another Canadian electro group about to blow up! We at xphizzle are on a mission to support our local talent over all. Anything we can do to help, will be done to see young talented bands make it big. DVAS is a Toronto/Montreal based electro group that has an italian dance vibe going on. Check it out and drop us a line if you like it! Great for spinning classes
The first album “Main Dish” of the local Montreal artist Matt-Track is now available at any good record store. Last night I assisted to their concert at the Musique en vue festival in Cowansville Qc, and I was really surprised with there overall performance. They’re an (acoustic – folk- rock) band that sounds like a mix of Jack Johnson and Dave Mathews Band. The guys showed a lot of energy on stage, they even had a Frisbee match in the middle of their set. Check out these couple songs, but I strongly suggest you actually buy this CD here to support these local artist. I did.
Lykke Li (born Li Lykke Timotej Zachrisson), better known by her stage name, is a Swedish indie singer. I would classify her music as soul electro. Great beats to listen to at the office or just as a relaxation medium. Great for those rough sundays ! Check out the great Fred Falke remix of I’m Good, I’m Gone.
Yes…we all have those mornings. I’m ok, I haven’t indulged in compulsive drinking last night. Noooo….not at all. Maybe that’s why I could identify this superb down-tempo mix as a good cure for my next hangover cure. Sure, it does not beat a 2 eggs, bacon and ashbrowns, but it’s a start. It starts off very slowly with the second song being from Burial (about who I shall blog in the next week or so…) and then accelerating a bit in the later parts of the mix before eventually performing a soft landing. I stumbled upon the mix while browsing Discobelle and Get Weird Turn Pro. Here is the tracklist:
01. Roy Davies Junior – Gabriel
02. Burial – Archangel (Boy 8 Bit remix)
03. Smoking Beats – Dreams
04. Paul Johnson – Get Get Down
05. Double 99 – RIP Groove
06. Ron Carroll – Nike Song (Bart B More remix)
07. Samim feat Big Bully – The Lick (Derrick Carter Dub)
08. Drums of Death – Breathe (Curses remix)
09. Zombie Disco Squad – Straight Boy
19. Worthy – Les Tard
11. Jesse Rose & Oliver $ – Wake Up
12. Jennifer Cardini & Shonky – Tuesday Paranoia (James Jones Submerged House Mix)
13. Louie Austen – Hoping (Herberts High Dub)
14. Mystery Jets – 2 Doors Down (Duke Dumont Reconstruction)
Yes, we’ve been huge fans. Her albums are ups and downs in my opinion, but it’s hard to argue with the song “Paper Plans”. It has created immediate fans around me, everywhere I went and played the song. Chicks went crazy, gents just boobed their heads following the beat, as it usually goes for a truly great song, where both genders can find it good and entertaining. Here is a very weird, techno-jazzy remix of the song. It took me 2 or 3 loops to really appreciate it, but I like this little twist. DFA, a trio from NYC that has a HUGE credentials in the music world as producers and remixers (they produced stuff for N.E.R.D., Chemical Brothers, Gorillaz, LCD Soundsystem, and more), are a funky innovative bunch. We recommend you check out more of their stuff here.
I found this song thanks to “This Recording” blog, which is truly a nice surprise I stumbled upon to in the last few days. Very eclectic, and frankly a bit weird…nowadays that means cool, just like the 80s.
Ever have one of those songs that is just stuck on repeat in your iTunes and you can’t get enough of it for a little while? Well these songs by Jupiter will do just that ! The group is comprised of Q & A. Q is the boy and A is the girl. They’re from Paris, but are currently being productive in London. From the looks of their one real myspace photo they perform live with synths and a little vintage disco magic. We’ve got two original track and one cover of Patrick Juvet’s ‘I Love America’…with the promise of more music to come soon.
Back when “electro” had a totally different meaning, great tracks were made. With todays hipster movement, I still enjoy a remixed oldie once in a while. Like my friend Coach Bombay would say, “If you ain’t first, you’re last”. So here’s a couple classics with a twist to bump in your cars over the week-end.
From Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, “The Twelves“ were formed by the duo João Miguel and Luciano Oliveira back in 2006. The name came from the strange coincidence of their birth dates: twelve of july of 1980.
The breakthrough for The Twelves came in July of 2007 when they remixed the track “Boyz” from M.I.A’s sophomore album, Kala. The sound of the duo brings influences from many genres. Among the most influential to their sound are Daft Punk, Justice, Röyksopp, Vitalic, Simian Mobile Disco, MSTRKRFT, Clor, Cut Copy and Goldfrapp. Here’s one of there most popular mixes :
Intro – Title Music from A Clockwork Orange
1 – Revolte – Weak Generation
2 – Michael Jackson – Thriller (instrumental)
3 – Chromatics – In The City (The Twelves Replay)
4 – Datarock – I Used to Dance with my Daddy (Metal on Metal Remake)
5 – Lifelike – So Electric
6 – Theatre of Disco – YOA (The Twelves Remix)
7 – Boys Noize – Feel Good (TV Off)
8 – Thieves Like Us – Drugs in My Body (The Twelves Replay)
9 – Le Knight Club – Rhumba
10 – Les Rhythmes Digitales – Hypnotize
11 – Black Kids – I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You (The Twelves Replay)
12 – M.I.A. – Boyz (The Twelves Replay)
Since we’re going into FRENCH mode here over at the xPhizzle HQ, I thought I would post one of my new favorite francophone songs. The stunning ‘les mecs kleenex’ is a banging yet very catchy song, featuring the talented and totally hot sounding wonder on the vocals while revolte are delivering what we’ve come to expect from them – meaning hard hitting drums as well as synths and samples dripping with funk.
